Life cycle assessment of nature-based coagulant production: Light and dark sides of the freeze-drying process

Nature-based coagulants are emerging as sustainable alternatives to chemical coagulants in water treatment processes. These coagulants, derived from plant-based or natural materials, are known for their biodegradability, non-toxicity, and environmental friendliness. However, the production process, particularly freeze-drying, involves both ecological benefits and environmental trade-offs. This life cycle assessment (LCA) examines the positive and negative impacts of the freeze-drying process in producing nature-based coagulants.
